Toor Dal Rasam / Tuvaram Parippu Rasam Recipe

Simple and easy to make accompaniment for rice and a south Indian favorite. Lunch is never complete without a Rasam in any South Indian house. Coriander, Jeera, Pepper, Garlic are considered as the main ingredient which enables in healthy digestion and giving warmth to the body. Proportion of these ingredients vary based on the taste required. 

Winters never pass away without Rasam for every meal. South Indians prefer having Rasam with mashed rice when sick as it is considered as an easy digestible food

Toor dal Rasam / Tuvaram Parippu Rasam

Ingredients
  

  • Coriander seeds 1 tsp
  • Peppercorn 1 tsp
  • Red chilli 5
  • Garlic 5 cloves
  • Curry leaves few
  • Tomato 2
  • Tamarind 1 lemon size
  • Water 3 cups
  • Toor dal Stock 1 cup
  • Salt

Temper

  • oil – 1 tsp
  • mustard – 1/2 tsp
  • red chilli – 1 split
  • curry leaves – few

Instructions
 

  • Extract tamarind pulp from the tamarind and keep aside.
  • Grind Coriander seeds, peppercorn, red chilli, garlic, curry leaves, Tomato to a smooth paste
  • Combine tamarind pulp, ground mixture, water, Stock and salt in a large skillet. Let this rasamcome to a boil
  • Meanwhile heat oil in another pan. Add mustard and let it splutter. Add the red chillies andcurry leaves. Pour this tempered mixture on top of the rasam
  • Once the rasam come to a boil, turn off the heat and remove from stove
